Mic dejun la Margina
BREAKFAST IN MARGINA
In Margina, a commune well known for rural tourism in Banat, the custom of welcoming guests with a prepared table has grown into a project of its own: Breakfast in Margina. What began as a village tradition has become an authentic tourism initiative, closely tied to the place and its people.
Breakfast in Margina was designed as a genuine rural experience and as a form of support for local producers and host families who cook themselves. Over time, it has become a reference point for responsible tourism in Romania, gaining recognition at European level, including third place in Europe in the category of “Sustainable Cultural Tourism Destinations”.
Everything starts with the tables set by households in Margina and the surrounding villages: fresh cheeses and curd, free-range eggs, honey, orchard-made jams, hearth-baked bread and pies prepared the traditional way. Guests can enjoy breakfast at the local gastronomic points Casa Emilia Popa or the “La Fântână” shepherd’s farm, then continue on to the rose orchard in Curtea, or listen to local stories at the Village Museum in Sintești and the “Curtean” Ethnographic Museum in Curtea.
Each stop is part of a culinary and cultural route that connects food to place and to the area’s living heritage. The entire initiative is coordinated by the Margina Tourist Information Centre, which brings together hosts, producers and craftsmen.
In this way, Breakfast in Margina becomes more than a morning meal. It is a natural introduction to the true Banat — with honest flavours, traditions kept alive, and people who live their place every day.
