Virtual Tour of the 1989 Events in Timișoara

The Association for the Promotion and Development of Tourism in Timiș County, in partnership with the 1989 Revolution Memorial Association, has created the first virtual tour of the events of the 1989 Revolution.

In an era of digitalization and diverse experiences, we bring the stories of the heroes and the events of December 1989 to the attention of younger generations, who are increasingly interested in technology. This gives our destination the opportunity to present, through VR glasses, information about this defining moment in our history — as an invitation to discover the free spirit of the people.

The aim of this initiative is to promote this part of our destination’s identity among young people, especially those who did not experience the events of 1989 firsthand, in order to keep alive the memory of the heroes and the spirit of freedom in Timișoara.

Thus, in collaboration with the 1989 Revolution Memorial Association, a virtual tour was created of the locations where the events of 1989 began and later unfolded, as well as of the museum’s interior. This tour can be accessed via VR glasses held by the 1989 Revolution Memorial Association and the Association for the Promotion of Tourism in Timiș. The tour includes information, images, and sounds designed to evoke the atmosphere of that period, which is defining for today’s Timișoara.
