The People's Park in Timișoara

The People's Park, now called the Queen Mary Park, spread out over a surface of 45,100 m² in Fabric Neighbourhood, between J. H. Pestalozzi, Splaiul Nistrului, Episcop I. Lonovici Streets and 3 August 1919 Av..

It is the oldest park in Timișoara, and it was planted at the initiative of the governor of Banat of Temeschwar and Vojvodina, Count Johann von Coronini-Cronberg, around 1852. Over time, the park received different names, such as: Varosliget, Coronini Park, Town Park, Queen Mary Park, Tineretului (Youth) Park.

The park, a network of alleys and numerous species of trees, mainly deciduous, ends near a bridge crossing the old branch of the Bega Canal, a bridge which already existed in 1852. In the East side of the park, the building of the old "Parc" cinema is still partly preserved, whereas the restaurant and the military band gazebo are no longer there.

A mini football field and ping-pong tables are also available in the park.

The alleys and fence were restored in 2009 and a modern irrigation system was set up.

Currently the park is used for transit and recreational purposes.
