Traditional Food at the Local Gastronomic Point in Sânandrei, Timiș

Starting August 23, you can enjoy, in the calm breeze and comfort of a productive vegetable garden, lunch or dinner prepared with local products at Strada Gloriei no. 21 in Sânandrei! A Local Gastronomic Point (PGL) has been opened here, where groups of up to 12 people can, at first, enjoy lunch or dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays, prepared with products from the hosts’ own farms.

Built around the vegetable greenhouse, honey, and field-grown vegetables, the local gastronomic point will allow guests to taste dishes such as Zacuscă or pumpkin seed oil on sourdough bread baked in a wood-fired oven, tomato soup or roasted pumpkin, plum pie, or marmalade sprinkled with honey and nuts.

A very current tourism concept, local gastronomic points promote rural culinary traditions in an organized and safe way. They are private kitchens within farms or family holdings, serving recipes specific to the region to a maximum of 12 tourists.

Currently, there are two local gastronomic points operating in Timiș County, in the villages of Sânandrei and VV Delamarina, with a third one in Margina commune in the process of being established.

To facilitate the opening of such locations, which benefit farmers, small producers, and the destinations in which they operate, the Association for the Promotion and Development of Tourism (APDT) in Timiș County has, over the past two years and with the support of local town halls, organized several meetings between specialists from the Timiș Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate — the institution responsible for PGL certification — and residents of the communes Tomești, Fârdea, Jimbolia, Otelec, and their surroundings.

The legislation regarding Local Gastronomic Points was initiated by the Ivan Patzaichin – Mila 23 Association in 2016.
