Amid water lilies, birds, and shimmering fish, in the Lake Surduc Natural Reserve

A new ecotourism season begins in May around the largest lake in western Romania. Catamaran rides on the lake, cycling tours, hiking trails, and wildlife and flora observation are just a few of the experiences we invite you to discover in the Surduc Lake Nature Reserve.

The Association for the Promotion and Development of Tourism (APDT) in Timiș County, in accordance with the current anti-COVID regulations, will resume boat trips on Lake Surduc with the Eco Timiș electric-powered catamaran.

Between May 1st and October 31st, 2021, on Saturdays and Sundays, tourists will be able to enjoy free rides between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. For groups larger than eight persons, reservations are recommended at the following phone numbers: 0721 779 225 and 0720 851 517.

With a capacity of eight seats, the catamaran is powered by an electric motor, is completely non-polluting, and was purchased by APDT Timiș through the European project RORS-39, Eco Timiș – a new tourism product aimed at contributing to the development of tourism services in Timiș by promoting the Surduc Lake Nature Reserve.

Currently under the custody of the Fârdea Town Hall, the catamaran is docked on the shore of Lake Surduc. Public access for boarding and disembarking will take place from the public road leading to the lake, at the entrance from the national road toward the Bible Study Center, marked with Eco Timiș signs.

By focusing on ecological tourism and sustainable development of the area, Turism Timiș invites travelers to explore the region surrounding the largest lake in the county, to spend several days sunbathing, hiking, and visiting nearby attractions. Tourists can find camping spots along the lakeshore, as well as accommodation in guesthouses and cabins around the lake. They can enjoy a picnic or dine at local eateries in Fârdea, Gladna Română, or Dumbrava.

Surduc Lake is a mixed-type nature reserve of national interest. Covering an area of 460 hectares, the lake does not freeze, creating the necessary conditions for thousands of aquatic birds to survive the winter, and in spring it offers a unique spectacle as the water lilies bloom.
